For years, lake associations in Northern Michigan have battled with ways to mitigate the issue by interrupting the parasites life cycle. Leelanau County groups pioneered new methods of controlling the parasites that cause swimmer's itch, and together with new technologies have allowed us to more fully understand the environmental and biological factors that impact its growing spread in our regional lakes. And, most importantly, how all of us can learn to avoid getting a severe case of “the itch.” Lake Leelanau Lake Association (LLLA) recently put together an excellent webinar case study of their 1990-2019 learning curve dealing with swimmer's Itch.
