First, we need to recognize that the costly efforts to institute a targeted “lake-wide” swimmer's itch control, which largely worked several decades ago, can no longer be counted as a justifiable cost effective solution to our problem. Also, that we need to do more research to confirm and refine results to see if the newly-discovered parasites, which cycle through Canada geese and mallards as well as the newly discovered snail species that host such parasites, can be effectively controlled.
